| Tristan
came to the Child Development Program when he was two years old. Although
his mother described him as a happy, mellow little boy, she was concerned
about his hearing and had noticed that he would often spend long periods
of time playing alone.
His teachers quickly identified some difficulties with social skills
and language. Tristan was assessed by our early intervention team
and received therapy services in his classroom. At age three, our
team helped him transition to a part day public school program where
he could continue his therapy. In the afternoons, he continued to
come to the Child Development Program.
Tristan has blossomed with this team approach, and over the years
he has made tremendous gains. Today, eight-year-old Tristan attends
public school and is included in our after school program, where
he enjoys blowing bubbles and playing with marbles. He has learned
to interact in positive ways with his peers, and is able to participate
in fun art and science projects in our summer camp program. The Child
Development Program is Tristan’s home base, where he feels
safe and accepted and he always knows what to expect. |
